Political events give the rhythm of my photography. You have to be quick at all times, and yet, you need to be patient : wait hours for one picture. I realized that I was wrong to think that nothing was happening while I was waiting. As with for each political event, the wait itself comes with pomp and ceremony.
This play has a number of characters. On stage, all the little helpers hands are busy finalizing the costume, make-up and set. The audience, who is shyly waiting for the show to begin, is now reaching for their cameras, eager to capture the perfect shot.
At long last, the lead steps into the limelight. From one event to another; the lectern remains the same, only the words change: inaugurations, good wishes, ceremonies, never mind the purpose. He knows what to say to strike a sensitive chord with his audience. Even though they came to listen or critique, deep down they respect him and are captivated by the power that he embodies. He, who worked all these years to stand here, in front of us, will soon have to leave and make room for the next victim of this never-ending power game.
